Client: Municipality of Oud-Beijerland
Type of project: Conceptual Design, Preliminary Design, Final Design
Build: 2017, 2018

I worked on this project while in service of Mobycon, in collaboration with Engineering Company Waalpartners

The municipality of Waddinxveen is upgrading one of its historic main streets. Over the years, the narrow and monumental Dorpstraat has increasingly become a street for traffic, lacking spatial quality. Using a participatory design process with residents and entrepreneurs, Dick van Veen has made a new design for the street, in both the historic and more modern part of the street. In the historical part of the Dorpstraat and Kerkweg-West, the clear distinction between carriageway and sidewalk is absent; a tapestry of high-quality street pavers has been rolled out from building line to building line. In this space, on street parking, benches, trees and bicycle parking all find their place, enhancing the feeling of place instead of flow. The more modern part has been designed as a safe, pleasant residential street with wider sidewalks and space for on street parking. Dick delivered both the conceptual design as the preliminary design. It was build in 2018.
