Client: City of The Hague,  the Netherlands
Type of project: Conceptual design, preliminary design, final design
Build: 2014-2016
Partners: Designed in collaboration with urban design company Urban Synergy

The city of The Hague is updating its streets to meet the requirements for new streetcar network ‘Randstadrail’. I did a complete redesign for the heritage street Lange Vijverberg, right in from of the Dutch parliament, in collaboration with urban designers from Urban Synergy.

I incorporated the new streetcar, partly on separated infrastructure, while maintaining and strengthening the multiple rows of trees. As a ‘green boulevard’ the walking and cycling routes are safe and pleasant, car route slow and transit accessible. At the same time, the monumental image of the street has been preserved and even reinforced. The design, supported by many stakeholder groups in The Hague, has been in 2016 and continues to be a highlight in the city.
